There's a certain energy at the beginning of Spring that makes us want to clean and organize. Clients are calling, and I'm in new homes each week. Now is the time to take advantage of the energy we naturally feel this time of year, and declutter, organize, and clean our homes. A decluttered and organized home brings many benefits, including the time and money saved cleaning. Here are five reasons why an organized home is easier to clean. #1 When Surfaces are Clear, Dusting is a BreezeWho enjoys dusing? Show of hands? Which sounds more appealing: dusting a dresser with a lamp and an alarm clock? Or dusting a dresser with a lamp and an alarm clock and a tray of change and three shirts and a stack of books and some artificial flowers and a ceramic elephant and a tray of colored glass bottles? Enough said. #2 When Floors are Clear, Vacuuming is a BreezeSame concept as #1. We're not suggesting that you donate all your furniture, but the fewer things that must be moved in order to vacuum properly (and we all know that doesn't happen every week), the more likely you're going to vacuum more thoroughly more often. #3 Less Gross in the BathroomDid you know that when you flush, particles can be launched out of the bowl up to three feet? The fewer things you have exposed in the bathroom, the fewer things that are at risk for being covered in...particles. (I always recommend covering your toothbrush or storing it in a drawer.) Note: if you're short on drawer space in the bathroom, and you have one of those "fake" drawer fronts under your sink, try this. It's one of my favorite ways to increase storage in that unused space under the bathroom or kitchen sink. #4 You'll Save Time by Storing Cleaners Where You Use ThemIf all your cleaners are underneath the kitchen sink, you're wasting precious minutes walking from the kitchen to the bathroom and back. Store your bathroom cleaners under the sink in the bathroom and your kitchen cleaners under the sink in the kitchen. If you use the same cleaners in both the kitchen and the bathroom, consider buying extra bottles of your favorites to store under both sinks. More bathrooms on different floors of your home? Even more reason to have duplicates under each sink. This goes for paper towels and cleaning cloths too! #5 Having a Home for Everything Makes Tidying Up Easier and FasterHaving a spot for everything makes it so much easier to tidy up – for both you and the rest of your family, especially if things you use are both easily accessible and easy to put away. One big element of organization is finding a home for everything. If you don't have to think of where to put every individual thing you pick up, the process is MUCH quicker. And if the family understands were everything goes, you've just increased your cleaning force! Thanks to our friends over at Eloise's Cleaning Service for helping us prepare this list. Check them out if you're in or near the Wilmington area. Remember: the easiest way to clean your home is to let someone else do it! Happy Organizing!
